The Tax Department duties are to collect and enforce the City of Harrison 1% earnings tax imposed by the tax ordinance 4-82 and the tax rules and regulations. The City of Harrison has a 1% earnings tax for all residents, employees, business and corporations within and doing work in the city. The 1% earnings tax is imposed on qualifying wages, commissions and other compensation earned by residents, net profits from business or corporations in the city limits and including rents from property.
We have mandatory filing. All resident individuals and businesses are required to file a return whether or not any tax is due regardless if you rent or own. Annual returns are due April 15th. Payments of the prior year's balance and the first quarter are due at this time. A penalty of $25.00 will be applied for failure to file and if tax is due an additional 5% penalty and 8% annual interest will be applied monthly.
If your employer does not withhold a city tax from your paycheck, you are required to file an annual declaration of estimated tax and make quarterly payments. Residents, whose entire income is taxed in another municipality having an income tax rate of 1% or more, will not pay any additional tax to Harrison. However, all residents must file and provide proof of taxes paid to another municipality with their W-2 form.
Landlords are required are required by the last day of January, April, July, and October to furnish a list of any tenants who have moved in or out the property owned by them in the Municipality.

For your convenience, there is a tax drop box in the front window.
