Mayor Joel McGuire
Joel F. McGuire was sworn in to a four-year term as Mayor of Harrison on January 2, 2008. Before being elected Mayor as an Independent candidate, Mayor McGuire served on Harrison City Council for four years.
Mayor McGuire is a fourth generation member of the Harrison community. He is a graduate of William Henry Harrison High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio University, and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law. He is also a graduate of the Municipal Leadership Training Academy of the Ohio Municipal League.
Mayor McGuire is a military veteran, having served as a U.S. Army officer and Airborne Ranger leading soldiers overseas in Kuwait and Bosnia.
An attorney with the Cincinnati law firm Wood & Lamping LLP, Mayor McGuire earned the professional litigation certification of “Master Advocate” by the National Institute For Trial Advocacy (NITA). The Cincinnati Business Courier recently named Mayor McGuire one of the top forty business professionals in the Greater Cincinnati area under the age of forty.
Mayor McGuire’s mission statement is to transform City government into an effective, efficient machine that is responsive to its citizens, plans for the future, and ensures that Harrison is a great place to live, work, and have fun. Mayor McGuire’s priorities in his first term are to establish the City’s Economic Development program, conduct a complete review and revision of the City’s planning and zoning procedures and laws, institute more efficient procedures in City departments, and allow creative uses of City property to provide more recreation options for our citizens, youth, and visitors.
