Mayor's Fund
The Harrison Mayor's Fund is a charitable organization dedicated to helping those in need of financial assistance in the greater Harrison community. The Mayor's Fund assists our citizens in a variety of ways. With the assistance of Love, Inc. (another charitable organization in the community) we help those in need with grocery vouchers, food pantry items, Duke energy bill assistance and occasionally rent payments. During the Holiday Season, the Mayor's fund, together with the various local churches and schools, provide assistance in the form of food, clothing, winter coats and toys to hundreds of families.
The Mayor's Fund raises money through various fund-raising activities throughout the year. These events include: the Mayor's Fund 5k run/walk and the Mayor's Fund Golf outing.
The Mayor’s Fund volunteers also participate in various fund raising booths at local festivals and activities held by the Harrison Recreation Commission. Other organizations also assist in raising funds for the Mayor's Fund such as the WHHHS "Soup Bowls" event and the SWLSD "change wars" event. A new event hosted by the Mayor's Fund will be a banquet, scheduled to be held in February, 2009.
A new component to the Harrison Mayor's Fund will be a scholarship program to benefit WHHHS seniors. The details of this program are still being finalized, but the intention is to award the first scholarships in Spring 2009.
